The MELISE (Media Literacy for Senior European Citizens) project was officially launched during the kick-off meeting held in Barcelona, Spain, on May 14-15, 2024. This inaugural event brought together consortium partners to discuss the project’s organization, plan, and direction.

Hosted by Ediciones Octaedro, the meeting welcomed representatives from Dataninja (Italy), AUTH (Greece), UNED (Spain), Cosicosa (Spain), ALPMJ (Portugal), and online attendees from IDYL (Germany), Grey Panthers (Italy), and ECO Learning (Spain).

The participants engaged in discussions covering various aspects of the project, including theoretical, methodological, technical, financial, and administrative segments. They also assessed research challenges and outlined strategies to ensure the quality and success of the project, considering all tasks involved.

The MELISE project aims to enhance media literacy among senior citizens, a critical component in today’s digital age. Media literacy is essential for fostering a democratic and inclusive society where individuals can fully exercise their citizenship. Older adults often face unique challenges in navigating digital technologies, which can exacerbate the digital divide. The MELISE project seeks to address this issue by providing media literacy education to empower older individuals, promoting a more inclusive society.

Key objectives of the MELISE project include:

  • Facilitating the exchange of knowledge and educational resources.
  • Promoting best practices in media literacy education.
  • Offering training programs and workshops for media literacy professionals and older adults.
  • Strengthening cooperation and collaboration between various associations.
  • Developing a pan-European consortium to build connections and share knowledge across national, cultural, and linguistic borders.

We are delighted with the outcomes of the kick-off meeting and are excited to begin our collaborative efforts towards the project’s goals!
