Melise Project

Media Literacy for Seniors

Media literacy is more necessary than ever if we are to continue to build a democratic and inclusive society in which people can develop their full citizenship. However, when we talk about media literacy, the focus is often on young people, especially teenagers. But digital transformation affects the whole of society, including older people, who need to be supported in developing media literacy skills. There is therefore a need for critical media literacy education to respond to the increasingly diverse needs of active citizenship. Older people need and deserve media literacy skills to help them navigate and critically evaluate the wealth of information available through traditional and digital media. The MELISE project aims to explore and address the importance of media literacy for older people and its relevance in today’s society, to facilitate the exchange of educational resources and good practices in media literacy for older people, and to develop and deliver media literacy training programmes that address their specific learning needs.
